Property developers do not want the planning authority to accept anonymous objections, claiming that “more often than not” these are not genuine and those submitting them would have ulterior motives.

“Moreover, the Malta Environment and Planning Authority should not encourage and support the anonymous letter culture,” the Malta Developers Association said yesterday.

While welcoming Mepa’s recent decision that all objections and correspondence with objectors will be made public on the authority’s website, the developers said anonymous objections should not be entertained.

The association also wants Mepa to screen all objections to ensure these are based on planning considerations and if not they should be rejected outright.
