The Malta Developers Association yesterday complained that foreigners at Smart City were being given very advantageous conditions to the detriment of their Maltese counterparts.

But, with parcels of land at Smart City being offered for sale, the realisation of projects still ended up depending on the imput of local developers. This practice, the association said, undervalued public property, with the country not reaping much benefit.

The same had happened with other projects such as Chambray in Gozo.

At the same time, individual developers of private land were being hassled by the planning authority and by excessive bureaucracy.
