In January 2004, Swedish furniture design company Vitra launched its modern home collection, which included design classics, re-editions and products by contemporary designers.

But as there was no interior space available for the presentation of the collection on the company’s site in Weil Am Rhein, between Switzerland and Germany, the company commissioned Basel-based architects Herzog and de Meuron 6 to design the Vitrahaus. And this is it.

The house is a futuristic living space but perhaps not everyone’s cup of tea.

It has just opened and is the newest addition to the design company’s site.

Some call it the face of the future.

The concept of is one of stacked volumes. For the five-storey structure is comprised of 12 houses – five set at the base and seven other houses stacked on one another.
