The popular Car Demolition Derby, organised every year by the MotorSport Association in aid of the Community Chest Fund, will take place at the Ta’ Qali circuit on Sunday.

The Demolition Derby, which attracts drivers from different championship categories, will start at 3.30pm.

The organisers have already registered an entry of 18 drivers for the race and pre-race meetings have already been held to determine the competition rules. Scrutineering will be held on Saturday afternoon.

The day’s racing programme on Sunday will start earlier with another series of competitive races getting underway as early as 10am.

Autocross competitors will be challenging each other on an S-shaped curve track layout.

Class A is led by Christian Galea (Fiat Ritmo) with Patrick Cassar (Open Corsa) and Vince Farrugia (VW Polo) hot on his heels in the provisional championship standings.

Mario Scicluna (Opel Corsa) is the driver to beat in Class B autocross at the moment. His nearest pursuers are Gużi Pace (Ford Escort) and Malcolm Borg (Open Corsa) and top Gozo contenders Marvic Vassallo and Christian Apap (both Ford Escort).

The racing programme on Sunday will also include events for Motocross riders, Trial bikers and Banger races.
