Three environmental groups have called on the planning authority not to repeat past mistakes and reject a development application in an archaeological sensitive site in Żebbiegħ.

The case goes back to 2010 when the Malta Environment and Planning Authority approved a permit for the construction of apartments and underlying garages in an archaeological sensitive area close to the Skorba neolithic temples.

The applicant has now applied for an additional basement level, which the green groups are objecting to.

The Archaeological Society, Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar and the Ramblers’ Association along with Żebbiegħ residents have also asked for the previous permit to be withdrawn due to the presence of archaeological remains.
