It appears there is no end to readers enduring the diatribes by former Mintoffian minister Lino Spiteri in regard to the Nationalist Party and its leader, Simon Busuttil.

And he wonders why politics are becoming dirtier, when he himself is contributing so unashamedly towards its degradation.

But now he has struck a new low: instead of condemning outright Prime Minister Joseph Muscat for harbouring and glorifying a convicted criminal, he goes about criticising Busuttil for requesting that Cyrus Engerer be relieved of all his official duties.

The way he twists and turns the facts upside down would qualify him for a place in the circus.

Yes, indeed, to err is human, but let us not forget, to persist is diabolical. That is exactly what he keeps doing in his biased writings.

There is no doubt about it, Engerer has been convicted but he has not paid for his crime in full by simply withdrawing his MEP candidature. Spiteri should agree that for Engerer’s political career to be over he should be barred from occupying any positions of trust, particularly government appointments.

We should be thankful, however, that Spiteri considers that Engerer is not a soldier of steel, as dubbed by the Prime Minister, and goes on to recommend that the latter should review his campaigning style.
