Tourist arrivals in December, numbering 58,566, remained unchanged when compared to the same month a year earlier although the number of nights spent in hotels dropped by 3.5 per cent.
Figures released by the National Statistics Office show the average length of stay was around 5.1 nights, a marginal decrease on the previous year.
The statistics also show there were 16,796 Maltese who stayed in a hotel in December with an average length of stay of 1.9 nights.
Hotels in Malta had 71,660 guests spending an average of 4.5 nights while Gozitan hotels registered 3,702 guests who spent an average of 2.4 nights there.
