What started as a small school project, Life Long War has now grown into a fully-fledged band that has just released its debut single and video.

The band, which is made up of Nicky Camilleri on vocals/guitars, Zeki Floyd Cassar on vocals/guitars and Kyle Fearne on drums, started out with the intention of providing entertainment during parent-student activities. However, the response was so positive that after a number of school performances the budding musicians decided to take the plunge with a number of public gigs.

This was way back in summer of 2014. Since then, the band has performed in numerous events, including Notte Bianca, fund-raisers and a live-televised gig. The band line-up has now settled into a trio, with the addition of a session bassist for stage performances.

The new release, Sun, is the band’s second original and was born as a rough idea towards the beginning of the year, where it continued to evolve all the way up to a week before being recorded at Temple Studios.

The band describe the track as having a funky bassline that dominates the verse, with conflicting melodies between the vocals and guitar in the chorus leading to an uplifting breakdown that slaps back down to a blues bridge. The lyrics convey the theme of uncertain reassurance... when someone assures you everything is right and silences your worries and concerns.

Sun is accompanied by its own music video that was filmed in Marsascala throughout November.

In the band members’ words, Life Long War can be described as a mix of genres that range from alternative/indie to funk rock, with the occasional jazz chords thrown in and a tendency to not be limited by the classic song-writing rules.

“We find that our songs always tend to develop a tangy and unique style. Knowing we are one of the youngest in the scene in Malta gives us a lot of motivation,” the band said.

The band is currently planning a post-launch event and more of the collaborative shows that it has become known for, besides working on their upcoming album. The music of Life Long War is available on You Tube, iTunes and Spotify.
