I refer to Football Shadows From The Past (904) featuring Lolly Borg (October 27).

Yet again Carmel Baldacchino erroneously writes that the Ajax team was promoted to the First Division in the 1948-49 season. As a matter of fact it was in the second part of season 1947-48, after Floriana FC suffered a heavy defeat 0-5 against Valletta FC, that the Ajax replaced the “old brigade”.

Floriana did not win the League, FA Trophy and Cassar Cup triple in 1948-49 but in 1949-50.

The second triple won by Floriana was in season 1952-53 and not the season after 1953-54, taken as 1954-55. The Greens won the Championship and FA Trophy that season.

Furthermore, Malta’s first-ever international match against Austria was in 1957 not 1956.

The SK Vasas, against whom Mr Borg made his MFA XI debut, played in Malta during the Easter Tourney and not the Christmas Tourney. Admittedly, a misprint as the caption accompanying the photo shows the date of the game as April 4, 1948.

Mr Baldacchino’s weekly Football Shadows make interesting reading and I draw his attention simply for accuracy’s sake.
