National junior title-holder Kyle Sciberras, who is on the books of Msida Arrows Badminton Club, is presently in Denmark taking an active part in the academy run by the Odense Badminton Club.

This is Sciberras’s second consecutive training camp at this academy, after having been invited for the first time in 2013 by Jakob Toft, one of the club’s leading coaches.

Toft had initially been impressed by Sciberras’s excellent performance during the week-long summer school run by Badminton Europe in Vejen, Denmark.

Sciberras’s daily training regimen integrates both court and gym sessions, averaging six hours daily. Certified as a National Training Centre of Excellence by Badminton Europe, the standard of training and coaches is very high and demanding.

Individual and detailed attention is a marked characteristic of such training, with Sciberras being tutored intensively by the academy’s head coach Lennart Engler.

Sciberras said: “It wasn’t easy to handle the intensive training in the beginning but the high standard gave me the right motivation to keep going and give my best no matter what.

“I am convinced that five weeks of training in Denmark, at what is probably the best academy in this country, will be extremely beneficial to me as a player since the experience I gain here cannot be obtained anywhere else.

“I wish to thank the Maltese Olympic Committee for helping me in this project. And I also wish to thank my personal sponsors Hell Energy Drink, Blue Elephant and Royal Thai Massage and Beauty.

The experience in Odense will endow Sciberras with added confidence when venturing on the international stage in the near future.

He is, in fact, planning to take part in two junior tournaments in the Badminton Europe circuit.
