As a visitor to this beautiful country, I was wondering why the police do not enforce road rules. Every day, I see cars going through red lights, overtaking on solid lines, on bends, hills, parking on roundabouts, double parking everywhere, even outside the police station, and many talking on mobile phones.

In Australia, there are very heavy fines associated with all these practices. People still speed and do silly things but it is few and far between. Speed cameras bring in lots of revenue for the government and usually keep speed within limits.

The most concerning thing of all, however, is the incidence of unrestrained children, standing between seats, even sitting in the front. Airbags are known to be dangerous to children, so please don’t rely on them. At the very least, look to the safety of little children, put them in the backseat with a safety belt and drive according to the rules.
