A group of 20 students from the Dance Workshop and St Michael’s Foundation recently attended the Mediterranean Dance Festival in Tropea, Italy.

The festival, organised by the Calabria Arte Association under the direction of Basilio Foti, consists of a dance camp where students live together and explore various dance disciplines with international teachers and choreographers.

Participants attend up to four classes of their choice daily, with each class made up of nearly 40 students.

Dance teacher Claire Cassola accompanied the Maltese group for the fourth consecutive year.

Four awards and scholarships were given to Maltese students at the festival.

Emma Tranter received an award for hip hop, Jade Farrugia for lyrical jazz, Peter Galea for jazz funk and Christina Aquilina received a month’s dance bursary study at the Peridance Centre in New York.
