A ship specialising in repairs was sent out to work on a submarine cable between Malta and Sicily that was suspected to have been damaged by a ship’s anchor on Saturday, slowing down internet services, Go said.

It said the damage occurred a few kilometres off the Sicilian coast and the repairs were expected to take between three days and a week.

The company said it had been able to maintain internet service through its other submarine cable and the support of other operators.

“Every effort is being made to keep speeds as high as possible,” it added.
