The government’s online customer care service, servizz.gov.mt, which receives about 50 complaints or requests a day, has now become easier to use.

Although it looks the same, the online system has been given an overhaul and all one needs to do before registering a complaint, suggestion or request for information is submit an ID card number.

A spokeswoman for the Office of the Prime Minister said the easier access to servizz.gov.mt was part of the process of renewing the public service.

This online customer care service was launched in 2002 to enable people to air their views from home or office rather than having to visit the various departments.

However, this could only be done by those with an e-ID, an electronic identity needed for one to access government services and which needs to be applied for.

Servizz.gov.mt can now be accessed by anyone with an identity card who provides their personal information before sending a request.

In the past nine months, some 13,000 requests were received, equivalent to nearly 50 cases every day. Of these, half have been closed while the rest are still being dealt with.

The most frequent are about roads in a bad state of repair and water and electricity issues.

There were also requests for information about the public transport timetable, exam results, public events and waste management.

Appointments with government entities may also be made through this online service.
