Patrick Curmi was yesterday named as the new coach of struggling Premier League club Tarxien Rainbows after the latter parted ways with Noel Coleiro by mutual consent.

Curmi has started the season at the helm of Birkirkara but lost his job after only five months in charge. The former Marsaxlokk coach yesterday agreed to take over as Tarxien coach until the end of the season but both parties have the option to renew the contract.

Coleiro’s departure brings the curtains down on his long spell with Tarxien.

The former San Ġwann mentor had already tendered his resignation this season only to be persuaded to return by the club committee and players but the 2-1 upset to Balzan Youths last weekend led both parties to go their separate ways.

Tarxien, who claimed a top-six finish in the last two seasons, are second bottom with only four points from eight matches.
