Now that TVM will soon be launching its second channel, may one hope for programmes of a much higher cultural content, such as opera, academic discussions, concerts of classical music, piano and song recitals, academic discussions, literary programmes and drama of substance, whether serious or comic.

As things stand, most of these items have become extinct on TVM and, as regards drama, this has become run-of-the-mill and quite bland, complementing what is very often banal stuff, simply churned out to offer cheap entertainment, which the powers that be apparently believe pleases the majority of viewers.

And this to the detriment of the other viewers, who would relish (and are entitled to) much higher standards of cultural entertainment on the state’s media and, hopefully, staunch the complete onset of cultural aridity and philistinism on this little island.
