Cruise ship visitors were down by 14.1 per cent last month, compared with July 2011, according to official figures.

In total, 25 liners brought 67,195 people to the island, with close to 54,000 from EU member states, although this was still 13.2 per cent fewer than last year.

The majority were German, followed by Italians, but cruise passengers from the US nearly halved, bringing the total of non-EU visitors down 17.7 per cent to 13,361.
