Reading about the desecration of graves is very disturbing. It is time, I think, that we introduce cremation as the best way of saying a final goodbye to our loved ones.
My wife died recently and during the burial service at the Addolorata cemetery I noticed the heartless vandalism perpetrated on graves.
Lead from the names on the marble slabs is pitilessly removed (to make pellets with which to kill birds). Brass and bronze are also in demand.
The problem is not desecration, but a good sale.
The selling of flowers outside the cemetery is also something we should be ashamed of.
I think cremation would solve many problems; it might sound crude, but on reflection it would work best.
