A Nigerian man with refugee status was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to being in possession of cannabis for his personal use.

Saheed Olowoshbile, 34, from St Paul’s Bay, was charged with being in possession of the drug on Sunday.

Legal aid lawyer Cedric Mifsud requested bail on the grounds that he was married and had a child.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman ordered a pre-sentencing report to be drawn up and requested that proof he was married be presented in court before a bail decree is handed down.

Mr Olowoshbile’s wife is expected to make an appearance today.
