I am the grandson of Captain Dudley William Mason who had been in command of the tanker Ohio, which took part in Operation Pedestal in 1942.

I have just come across an article that appeared on Times of Malta regarding Allan Shaw, a crew member of the Ohio.

The article in question appeared in August 2009.

I just wished to say how delighted I am that, at least, one of the crew members is still with us, or was at that time, and that he visited the island.

My wife and I have always felt at home during our visits due to the warmth and friendliness of the Maltese people.

My grandfather could not speak highly enough of the crew members. Their sheer courage, determination and willpower to carry on despite their desperate situation stayed with him all his life. We shall visit Malta again and enjoy meeting its people and visiting the places we have loved since 1983.
