A couple who received a €3,600 water and electricity bill, their first since October 2009, yesterday took the issue to the courts exasperated by the length of time it had taken to get billed. Kevin and Alexandra Galea, of Żabbar, filed a judicial protest arguing that not only had they received three bills at once on July 20 – the latest bringing the total to €3,665.51 – but were then told to pay the outstanding amount by next October.

In the protest, they said they had made repeated calls to the customer care centre about the exaggerated length of time it took to receive a bill and now, if they did not pay the full amount by October 21, they would have to pay six per cent in interest.

They held the company responsible for any possible financial damages they might incur and asked them to come up with a reasonable agreement for payment.
