A court yesterday dismissed a claim by the Żejtun council that it did not owe money to the Department for Construction and Maintenance for work carried out in 2005.

Madam Justice Anna Felice, sitting in the First Hall of the Civil Court, heard that the department had filed a judicial letter claiming the council owed it €81,378 for the works.

The council argued the request was barred by lapse of time and that the works in question had not been done correctly.

However, the court pointed out that the council had not provided any evidence in support of its claim.

It therefore dismissed the council’s claims and found in favour of the department.
