Nicholas Sammut is insisting that all allegations of improper conduct made against him at the Malta Council of Science and Technology have been withdrawn, so far as he is aware.
Times of Malta reported on Tuesday that Dr Sammut faced allegations of improper conduct before his resignation as MCST deputy chairman and CEO following the March 9 election.
Dr Sammut yesterday e-mailed Times of Malta to say: “As far as I am aware, all allegations have been withdrawn and there are no pending investigations in my regard about improper conduct.”
When contacted, MCST chairman Jeffrey Pullicino Orlando said there were no pending investigations in relation to improper behaviour associated with any MCST staff member “past or present”.
I will not be seeking a contract renewal even if one is offered to me, for personal and career reasons
Dr Sammut said he had offered his resignation together with the rest of the MCST board after the election, adding that his contract was due to expire on April 11.
“Since then I have informed the chairman that I will not be seeking a contract renewal even if a contract is offered to me, for personal and career reasons.”
Asked to clarify the details of the improper conduct allegations, Dr Sammut said he had nothing to add.
Dr Sammut is best known for his work at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, or Cern, in Switzerland.
The physicist is also on the staff at the University’s Department of Microelectronics and Nanoelectronics.
