We are all aware that our islands are suffering from lack of rain and we, private owners of large gardens, are finding it more and more difficult to cope. The government is trying to get EU funds for farmers but what about private gardens?

To continue watering a number of trees is becoming a financial burden, especially if the gardens belong to pensioners. If the owners cannot do the gardening themselves, the costysarte even higher because it is not cheap to employ gardeners.

The government has embarked on projects involving tree planting, which is very encouraging but may I ask the Environment Minister to consider my proposal so that we all contribute in keeping our gardens green.

Funds should be made available to local councils to be able to help gardeners who can then join the scheme when applicable.
