The luxury cruise ship Costa Deliziosa was recently the venue of a fundraising event in aid of L-Istrina.

The event formed part of the 12-hour TV marathon, which was broadcast on Boxing Day from the Presidential Palace grounds in Verdala, with links to Smart City, the Aurora Theatre in Gozo and the Costa Deliziosa.

Around 500 guests were hosted on the Deliziosa by owners Costa Cruises to spend the best part of Boxing Day on board the 93,000-tonne cruise liner. Guests enjoyed a tour of the ship, followed by a show before being treated to lunch.

After lunch, the ship’s master presented President George Abela with a €15,000 cheque as a contribution towards L-Istrina.

Costa is a founding member of the philanthropic Friends of Santa Caterina d’Italia Association, which looks after the restoration and upkeep of one of Valletta’s oldest churches.

Last September, Costa Cruises co-organised a fundraising event on board the Costa Magica, with €7,000 collected from a fashion show by Italian fashion house Luisa Spagnoli going to the Malta Community Chest Fund.

With over 3,000 cruises sold so far for 2013, Costa is a popular cruise company in Malta. The company has also introduced the all-inclusive concept on all cruises departing and ending in Valletta.

Costa Cruises’ agents in Malta are Orange Travel Group Ltd, while SMS Mondial are the preferred sales partners.
