A Maltese patient was refused reimbursement of the costs of life-saving medical treatment which he received abroad.
He had to fight several legal battles and the Court of Appeal has now ruled that his rights under EU law have been violated.
His ordeal lasted seven years. The state used all its powers to avoid paying for this patient’s medical treatment, which cost €74,241.
During this same period we provided an expatriate living in Malta ‘free’ medical treatment which costs us around €500,000.
