Cornwall is home to the most expensive seaside resort in the UK, according to a survey from Cheaprooms.co.uk.

The poll specifically established the 20 most expensive destinations in the UK based on the cost of lodging during August, the main summer holiday period.

With an average price tag of €155 per night for the least expensive double room, the town of St Ives clearly revealed itself to be the UK’s most expensive resort.

The survey considered only such hotels or guest houses rated 3 stars or higher and that are well located close to the beach. Significantly cheaper is Tenby, in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Ranking as the second most expensive UK destination, the least costly double room will set guests back €135 per night.

Two more resorts in Cornwall rank among the top 10: Falmouth and Padstow.

They share the sixth spot with Scotland’s Oban at an average rate of €106 nightly.

The table opposite shows the UK’s top 20 most expensive seaside resorts.

The prices shown reflect the average daily rate for each destination’s cheapest available double room (minimum: three-star hotel, guest house or B&B) for the time period spanning August 1–31, 2014.
