Contractor Nazzareno Vassallo and three of his directors have been exonerated of responsibility for the serious injury of a worker during the construction at Tigné Point in Sliema.

Mr Vassallo, 57, Mary Ann Vassallo, 58, Pio Vassallo, 31, all from Mosta and Aldo Vella, 62, from Mellieħa, pleaded not guilty to involuntary serious injury of Nedo Glisic on April 24, 2006.

From the evidence produced it resulted that Mr Glisic had been working on a roof when he fell a height of eight metres through a hole.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli ruled that it was Mr Glisic who was responsible for the accident because he failed to follow instructions and lifted what was known as a rasto panel covering the hole.

As he lifted the panel he walked forward and fell, the magistrate noted.

From the testimony of foreman Jason Bonnici it resulted that he had told him to erect a wall using rasto panels and instead of using the ones indicated to him he got hold of the one that was covering the hole.

Magistrate Demicoli said the accident was caused by Mr Glisic himself and acquitted the directors.
