A consumer filing a complaint against a professional, in this case an ophthalmologist, is always at a disadvantage.
I was asked by an ophthalmologist to have a new lens done and after having spent money on it I complained it was not the right prescription.
The ophthalmologist confirmed this and corrected it. He told me that I should go and have the lens done free of charge but this never happened as the shop asked me for another €100.
The ophthalmologist denied he was to blame and would not assume responsibility to have the lense done for free by himself.
Now the case has been passed on to the consumers’ tribunal. I wonder what the outcome will be as the shop told me I have no chance of winning the case because a percentage of mistakes made by ophthalmologists are tolerated.
I have persevered in filing my case as I have since learnt of claims of more mistakes committed by the same ophthalmologist. Most people, however, tend to give up easily and let these professionals have it their way.
