Less than a quarter of the 9,000 gas regulators recalled in August had so far been returned for replacement, the consumer affairs aut-hority said.

It urged customers to return the regulators to the place of purchase to be replaced and warned them to refrain from using the recalled regulators because they posed a danger.

In August, the Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority recalled two types of regulators: the green ones manufactured by Italian supplier Lagoplast, called Liquicontrol Malta, and the blue TPA Butane LR2522 regulators. It said the regulators posed a serious risk to consumers.

Since then, Liquigas, which imported the green regulators, received a consignment of new regulators to replace those recalled. It is now in the process of accepting the old regulators and replacing them with the new ones.

Consumers of the other brand can return the regulators to the place where they bought them from, taking along proof of purchase since there are several importers of this type of regulator.

The authority urged them to check all appliances using LPG to ensure the regulators were compliant.

Consumers should also check gas heaters because these could have regulators of the recalled types attached. Gas heaters could pose additional risks because these are frequently used with the cylinder inside.

For any clarifications, the authority’s technical regulations division can be reached on 2395 2000.
