May I refer to the contrasting headlines in Times of Malta (October 24).

On the front page, we have Seven-Year Wait For Bed At Home For The Elderly. Then, on page 7, accompanied by a picture, we read Journalist’s €42k Package At Ministry, referring to the Ministry of Energy and Water Conservation. I believe that this is the same ministry that has recently employed the minister’s wife at another whopping salary as an “overseas envoy”, whatever that may mean. In comparison, we then have Family Minister Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca bravely trying to get the poorer wage earners off the breadline.

The contrast cannot be any clearer. Perhaps the time has come for all the ministries with numerous consultants earning fabulous salaries and allowances to pool their budgets and contribute to Coleiro Preca’s efforts, say a couple of thousand euros or more per ‘consultant’!

Perhaps, Eddie Privitera has a better idea?
