The rise in gas and fuel prices is putting added pressure on the already strained construction industry and leading to job losses, according to Labour Party spokesman for construction Roderick Galdes.
Recent figures released by the National Statistics Office showed that employment related to the construction industry had suffered a four per cent drop. The industry had been negatively impacted by the increased cost of cement, new planning application tariffs and increased fuel costs, he said.
Over the past years the industry was the source of income for many families whose stability was being jeopardised by the government’s decisions, Mr Galdes added.
