I was utterly disappointed, if not disgusted, as I am sure many others were, to hear what the new Opposition leader, Adrian Delia, had to say about Daphne Caruana Galizia’s brutal car bomb murder.

His brief speech in Parliament, hours after she had been murdered, jarred immensely with the statesmanlike speech made by the Prime Minister.

Delia tried to score a few cheap political points when he started pointing fingers when he knew perfectly well that he himself had been an almost daily target of Caruana Galizia’s harsh criticism, something which had hugely angered many supporters of his leadership bid and eventual election as Nationalist Party leader.

All Labour Party leaders, a good number of Labour MPs, officials and people who had worked closely with Labour governments had been the subject of Daphne’s no-holds-barred criticism for decades. But there had never been an attempt on her life throughout all those years, as happened now, after Daphne turned her guns on Delia and those close to him.

So let no one point any accusing finger at anyone or any side. Let us allow the authorities, which, I understand, will have the backing of both government and Opposition, to investigate, with the help of foreign experts, this dastardly attack on freedom of expression.

Let us all hope the perpetrator/s of this heinous crime be brought to justice in the shortest time possible.

I take this opportunity to express my condolences to the Caruana Galizia family for the great loss they suffered as a result of this heinous crime.
