Why is it that Transport Malta continues to be hard-headed in some of the projects that it did not get right? Why is it that the minister, notwithstanding that he has been advised of these projects, does nothing to amend the flaws?

From the day that the public was advised that one of the lanes of the road from the Strand to Manoel Island was going to be turned into a bus lane, many voices pointed out the madness of this move. Sometime later it was even said to be illegal.

Forgetting the illegality for a moment, the minister himself or some responsible person from Transport Malta should be present in this area, to see what effects this bus lane has had on drivers, especially those going to work at around 8am.

From this photo it can be seen that the tailback goes all the way to the Point. There was a time when the queue was even starting before one enteredthe tunnel.

It was bad enough that traffic at The Strand could no longer use Bisazza Street. Now one can no longer go up Tower Road from the Strand, as we used to. The driver has now got to drive all the way towards the beginning of Manuel Dimech Street, avoid oncoming traffic from Gżira, then go back the same distance in order to go up Tower Road.

Transport Malta are surely aware of the increase in the number of vehicles on our roads. They must also be aware of the traffic problems that drivers have to face on a daily basis.

Instead of creating ways to avoid traffic congestion, they are doing the opposite.
