The King’s Own Band will transform Merchants Street into a musical arena, under the direction of Mro John Galea.

The band will execute nine works with the participation of singer Amber Bondin and violinist George Curmi Il-Pusè. The works to be performed are Innu Popolari lil San Duminku, Xemx, Latin Pop Special, Viva la Vida, The Blue Danube, Happy, The Last of the Mohicans, Born this Way and Omaggio alla King’s Own.

The band achieved numerous successes over the years, both nationally and on an international level - its most prestigious being at the International Band Festival held in Algiers in April 1912, where the band was honoured with the Massima Onorificenza with an Eccellenza Grado A diploma.

Other important events in the band’s history include its participation in the International Eucharistic Congress held in Malta in 1913 and the Great Siege Day held in 1936, when the King’s Own was the first band to play L-Innu Malti, the Maltese National Anthem, in St George’s Square, Valletta.

The concert will be presented by Frank and Odette Micallef.

The concert takes place tonight next to St Dominic church, Merchants Street, Valletta, at 8.30pm. Entrance is free.
