A concert celebrating 50 years of Turkish-Maltese diplomatic ties is taking place on Sunday in Valletta.
The concert features the Bursa State Symphony orchestra, violinist Fedor Rudin and Maltese pianist and conductor Alexei Galea Cavallazzi. They will be playing Mariella Cassar’s piece titled January, an orchestral tribute to her teacher, Charles Camilleri, and J. Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D major opus 77 followed by his symphony No. 1 in C Minor Opus 68.
The Bursa State Symphony orchestra is one of the best orchestras in Turkey. It tours regularly all around the country and has been associated with many acclaimed musicians. Rudin, one of today’s rising stars, is a student of Zakhar Bron and Pierre Amoyal and a winner of various prestigious competitions.
He shall be performing on the historical 1680 Stradivarius, the Paganini D’Annunzio.
Galea Cavallazzi is one of Malta’s prominent musicians and the only one to have been awarded the Union Federation Medal by the Russian Parliament for his contribution to culture. This concert continues the pioneering work that the Mediterranean Conference Centre is carrying out with foreign orchestras.
■ The concert is being held at the MCC on Sunday at 6pm. It is being organised in collaboration with the European Foundation for the Support of Culture. For more information and tickets, visit www.mcc.com.mt.
