A Christmas concert and dinner are being organised at St Mark’s Priory in Rabat to raise funds for the restoration of a priceless work of art.

Described as “one of the most important art treasures in Malta” due to its rarity and fine quality, this unique late medieval four-panel ‘tempera on board’ altarpiece is being restored by Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA). This irreplaceable set, belonging to the Augustinian Priory of St Mark, depicts the Madonna of Graces with flanking panels dedicated to St Paul, St Augustine and St Catherine.

The FAA has teamed up with the Johann Strauss School of Music to present some of Malta’s rising musical stars in the concert, to be followed by a dinner in the indoor cloister of the priory surrounding its central courtyard, built by Andrea Belli in 1740.

Welcome drinks and canapés will be served on arrival and a four-course Christmas meal, inclusive of coffee, a glass of wine and water, will then be served in the cloister by Bart Saive Caterers.

■ The concert and dinner are being held on Monday, December 12 (eve of a public holiday) at 7.30pm in the Augustinian Priory on St Augustine Street, Rabat. Bookings can be made through www.faa.org.mt.
