The Maltese government has condemned the Israeli decision to approve plans for new settlement activity in Givat Hamatos.

The government said it was very concerned that this latest announcement would seriously undermine the viability of a two-state solution.

It further put into question Israel’s commitment to a peaceful negotiated settlement with the Palestinians, the government said.

“Settlements are illegal under international law and only serve to undermine the prospects for constructive negotiations leading to a two-state solution.

“Malta calls on the Israeli government to reverse its decision and revise its settlement policy in East Jerusalem and the West Bank.”
