Terranova has opened a megastore in Iklin as part of a €1.6 million investment by businesswoman Diane Izzo, who is planning to open a second Terranova megastore in Fgura in September 2016.

The Iklin Terranova Megastore is spread over 1,200 square metres, and will host the full product line and collections from Terranova Italy. This includes Terranova lingerie, beachwear, sportswear and eventually Terranova Casa.

Ms Izzo also plans to invest €4 million in expanding and refurbishing all existing Terranova outlets to bring them up to date with the megastore concept.

New BOV credit card holders can win €375

Customers who take up new Bank of Valletta credit cards by August 31 are automatically eligible to win a BOV MasterCard prepaid card set worth €375.

The BOV cards summer campaign will consist of two draws, one held on August 16 followed by a second draw on September 16. Five names will be drawn in each and will be asked a skill-based question. Winners will take home the latest edition of four BOV MasterCard prepaid cards featuring birds of prey found in the Maltese islands.

Ryanair launches Leisure Plus fare

Ryanair unveiled its new Leisure Plus fare, offering customers a discounted bundle of travel extras, including priority boarding, a reserved seat and a 20kg bag from €51.99.

It also launched an improved Business Plus service, with flight change flexibility extended to two days either side of the scheduled flight date as well as on the day of travel.

The airline recently celebrated carrying seven million customers to/from Malta since its first flight in October 2006.

Ryanair will operate 37 routes from Malta this winter, which will deliver over two million customers each year and support 1,500 on-site jobs at Malta Airport.

Zaar scoops National Enterprise Award

Malta’s first crowd-funding platform, ZAAR.com.mt, has won first prize in its section at the National Enterprise Support Awards 2016. Zaar will be one of two local projects to represent Malta at the European equivalent of this contest: the European Enterprise Promotion Awards 2016, which will be held in Slovakia this November.

The Zaar crowd-funding platform is a joint venture between the Malta Business Bureau and the University of Malta.

The National Enterprise Support Awards are organised by the Commerce Department together with the Enterprise Policy and Schemes Directorate within the Ministry of Economy, Investment and Small Business.

Their aim is to reward entities that support entrepreneurship and the promotion of enterprise growth. The competition puts a spotlight on the role of the public sector at a local and national level, by creating the right environment for business and boosting their development with specially conceived projects.

Seminar on data protection

The marketing committee within the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry is organising a seminar on issues of data protection and how citizens’ rights have a direct effect on the operation of businesses.

Addressed by the Information & Data Protection Commissioner Saviour Cachia, the event will look at the current data protection regime in Malta, explaining the rights of the data subjects and the obligations of organisations, covering also marketing purposes, and then moving on to the data protection reform package in the EU, adopted in April 2016, which will eventually have to be implemented in Malta, repealing the current law.

Reference will also be made to the current hot issue of the transfer of personal data to the US, and the consequences it will have on other third countries. The seminar will be held at the chamber premises in Valletta on July 1 at 2.30pm.

Deloitte’s brand gets a makeover

Deloitte has rebranded for the first time since 2003, when it had rolled out the “green dot”.

The new brand identity has evolved from the original visual identity in terms of colour, fonts and imagery, and will be consistent in print and digital as well as on a mobile device.

Most brand elements and materials will be in place by the end of August, although the roll-out of building signage will take a bit longer.

Two new airlines now operating to Malta

Two new airlines have started operating to Malta, Czech Airlines and Iberia Express.

Czech Airlines will be connecting the Maltese islands with the Czech capital on Tuesdays and Saturdays this summer. Founded in 1923, Czech Airlines is the Czech Republic’s flag carrier and also one of the five oldest airlines in the world.

Iberia Express will be connecting the Maltese islands to Madrid every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The low-cost Spanish airline forms part of Spain’s flag carrier Iberia. Since its launch in 2012, Iberia Express has expanded its route network considerably and today operates flights to 39 destinations, of which 14 are domestic and 26 international.
