Owen Farrugia has been appointed director of sales and business management at Halmann Vella Ltd.

Mr Farrugia joined the Halmann Vella Group in 2002 where he worked in both production and sales, holding managerial positions. During his years at Halmann Vella he also gained industry expertise through overseas training opportunities, quarry and supplier visits, participation in conferences and expos, and other on-site visits.

“Halmann Vella is a company known for quality, which has grown exponentially in the past. I am proud to be part of this growth and look forward to identifying more business opportunities that result in mutually beneficial and profitable relationships with our local and international clientele,” Mr Farrugia said.

Service design expert in Malta

The Malta Business Bureau, which is the Ambassador for the European Commission’s Design for Europe programme in Malta, is bringing international service design expert Joep Paemen to Malta.

Mr Paemen, partner and founder at Flow Design Works, will be deliver a ‘learning by doing’ workshop on June 13 and 14 for local enterprises operating in the services industry.

Mr Paemen has led human-centred design projects in China, Brazil, Germany and the US. Prior to founding Flow, he held senior positions at leading companies including American Ex­press, Citibank and BNP Paribas in New York, London and Paris.

He co-authored a number of design resources including the Service Design Toolkit and is a regular conference speaker and trainer on the subject.

Design for Europe is a European Commission-funded pro­­gramme supporting design-driven innovation in the EU.

CBM-University links renewed

The Central Bank of Malta has renewed its agreement to set up a CBM Chair in Economics with the University’s Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy for three years as from October.

The Central Bank funding will go towards the strengthening of the Department of Economics. This will enable the faculty to engage distinguished foreign professors of economics of every year for three years.

They will lecture students on the honours course and students on a new part-time MA in Economics, which will start in 2016/2017 and be spread over two and a half years.
