Express Trailers diversifies into manufacturing

Express Trailers has just been appointed as Hammar’s European base for the rebuilding, upgrading and customisation of Hammar side-loaders for the global market.

Hammar Maskin AB, a Swedish company, is considered to be the world’s largest manufacturer of side-loaders with 80 per cent market share worldwide.

Side-loaders enable transport companies to load and unload containers onto trailer trucks without the use of cranes.

Express Trailers’ relationship with Hammar Maskin AB goes back 30 years. In 1985 Express Trailers ordered its first side-loader for its local operations. Since then, Noel Vella, one of the third generation family directors, has been regularly contracted by Hammar to conduct modification and servicing works to existent side-loaders for Maltese clients and for re-export. Mr Vella is also responsible for the maintenance of all Express Trailers’ fleet of trailers and trucks.

“This new development is a big milestone for our company. This new venture by Express Trailers will also entail internal restructuring of our operations, of our facilities and certainly more employment opportunities for skilled tradesmen,” said Franco Azzopardi, chairman and CEO of Express Group.

Express Trailers’ new manufacturing arm will be working on side-loaders sent to Malta by Hammar using its logistics experience and wide transport network to deliver the rebuilt units to the client, anywhere in the world.

Air Malta to use Sheremetyevo

Air Malta will move its Malta-Moscow operation to Sheremetyevo Airport Terminal E as from June 3. The airline’s timetable will remain unchanged, operating a twice-weekly service departing from Malta every Friday and Saturday and from Moscow every Saturday and Sunday.

The Maltese airline continues to be the only airline offering direct flights between Russia and Malta.

Located northwest of central Moscow, the airport is served by a variety of efficient transport modes. It is just 35 minutes away from the city centre by the Aeroexpress train. There are six hotels within a 10 minute walk of the airport, and a hotel in transit zone of Terminal E.

“Sheremetyevo airport is one of the top 10 fastest growing airports in Europe. Last year it handled 31.6 million passengers and 265,040 aircraft movements, making it the largest and most modern airport in Russia,” said Ursula Silling, Air Malta’s chief commercial officer.

Sheremetyevo Airport is a hub of the national airline of Russia and Air Malta’s code share partner, Aeroflot. Through this code-sharing Sheremetyevo will offer customers over 30 destinations within Russia.
