The MyMelita app for smartphones and tablets has been downloaded over 11,000 times in just three months since it became available on the iTunes Store and Google Play.

The free app is unique for Malta and the telecommunications industry. MyMelita enables Melita customers to manage their account for both prepaid and postpaid subscriptions for mobile, internet, television and fixed telephony services.

“The feedback has been amazing and we are witnessing a month-on-month increase in self-care usage via the MyMelita app. Typically, our customers use the app to check balances, bundle quotas, registered devices, store locations, view bills and payments.

“Completely developed in-house by Melita’s technology team, this app was part of our multi-million euro investment in a new, converged billing and CRM system,” said Malcolm Briffa, director of PR and customer experience.

New features are constantly being added to the app.

RSM Malta becomes RSM

RSM Malta will be rebranding to RSM following a global announcement by its international network, RSM International, that it is adopting a single global brand.

RSM Malta, which employs 65 professionals, has been a member of the network for 10 years.

The network commissioned a research firm to conduct extensive study of member firms, clients and prospects internationally. Feedback confirmed that the RSM global brand was recognised for its focus on collaboration, a deep understanding of what matters most to clients and insight sharing by senior partners.

All member firms will remain independent legal entities within the RSM international network, but will trade as RSM.

The changes will be effective from October 26.

RSM International is the seventh largest network of independent audit, tax and advisory firms, encompassing over 110 countries, 730 offices and more than 37,500 people internationally. The network’s total fee income is $4.4 billion.

Startup Weekend in July

For the fourth time, Malta will be hosting the international event, Startup Weekend, in collaboration with the Malta Communications Authority.

Startup Weekend is a Google-powered programme where ideas become high-growth startups in under 54 hours.

“The event attracts individuals of different ages with a wide range of backgrounds. This blend of people creates a perfect ambience for startups to become a reality,” said organiser Simon Azzopardi.

This year, startup teams will be mentored by leading angel investors from Berlin and Silicon Valley, accelerators, pitch doctors and successful entrepreneurs.

The event, happening from July 17 to 19, is being hosted by the TakeOff Incubation Centre at the University or Malta.
