BOV Mobile registered its 1,111,111 transaction since it was launched 18 months ago.

The transaction was made by regular user Maria Agius from Gozo who was presented with an iPad mini by the bank.

The last six months witnessed an increase of 40 per cent in payments effected over mobile phones, while the number of mobile top-ups has gone up to 60 per cent.

“This overwhelming response show that more customers are migrating to convenient ways of effecting transactions” said Noel Vella, Head Multi Channel Banking at Bank of Valletta.

“Over the past months since its launch, we were busy upgrading this platform. Among the most popular features introduced, customers are now able to top up any third party mobile phone, and personalise comments when effecting payments to third parties.”

As part of its drive to further promote and support the community in art and music, GasanMamo sponsored art and music workshops for children organised by Ars Vitae Ensemble as part of the Ġgantija 2013 Project.

“The workshops proved to be a great success with the children,” said Julian Mamo, managing director at GasanMamo.

“Seeing the children learn and enjoying themselves through art and music is what makes everyone so proud.”

As part of the Ġgantija 2013 Project, Heritage Malta together with Ars Vitae Ensemble held a number of workshops at the Heritage Malta’s National Museum of Archeology in Valletta and at Ġgantija Interpretation Centre in Xagħra. The project is curated by Vince Briffa and it was launched inside the Ġgantija Temples last June.

Students aged nine to 12 listened to the piece performed at the launch by the Ars Vitae Ensemble. They also had a slideshow, music sessions and the chance to create and decorate sculptures and paintings inspired by Malta’s prehistoric heritage.

The Ġgantija 2013 Project is hosted by Heritage Malta and is supported by The Malta Arts Fund, Banif Bank (Malta) plc, GasanMamo Insurance, Gozo Culture and Information Office, Xagħra Local Council, Abraham’s Supplies and The Janatha Stubbs Foundation.

Online Secret Santa runs for third year in a row

SecretSanta.com.mt, a non-profit project by PreeoStudios Ltd, is up and running for its third year in a row.

Preeostudios’ technical director Mark Camilleri came up with the idea of creating a free online platform for automating Secret Santa for personal use with friends and family.

To participate, a group representative must enter the website and create a game by inserting a name and password. When the participant names and e-mail addresses are added, the preset algorithm takes care of the rest.

In 2012, 129 Secret Santa games were played, involving more than 1,000 participants.
