The Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC) has unveiled its public website at berec.europa.eu to provide effective and timely information to European citizens, businesses, stakeholders and to the BEREC community.

BEREC and its office were established under the Telecom Reform package and replaced the European Regulators Group for electronic communications networks and services which was established as an advisory group to the Commission in 2002.

BEREC contributes to the development of the internal market for electronic communications networks and services, by aiming to ensure a consistent application of the EU regulatory framework and by promoting an effective internal market in telecoms sector, to bring greater benefits to consumers and businesses.

“BEREC is strongly committed to promoting a better understanding of its crucial role in the area of EU electronic communications,” BEREC chairman GeorgSerentschy said. “The new website, with all its functionalities, will enable EU citizens to be more familiar with our tasks and organisation and with the supporting role of the BEREC office. The new website will increase transparency about what we do, collecting in one place all the information about BEREC’s activities and about the crucial support provided by the office in Riga”.

The launch of the website is one of many steps BEREC has taken to increase awareness of its activities, its role and its responsibilities in the vital electronic communications sector. It will also make it easier to comply with EU transparency rules and obligations governing public access to BEREC documents, strengthening the body’s interaction with the outside world.

The website features an information section on BEREC’s competences, roles and main activities, an overview section on public events; a register of documents with a search engine; and sections about BEREC procedures and publicconsultations and news.
