The Electoral Commission has denied asking Air Malta to nominate an employee of their trust representing the respective political parties to oversee applications by voters, as insinuated by Alternattiva Demokratika spokesman Arnold Cassola.

In a statement at the end of January, Dr Cassola had said it would seem the Nationalist and Labour parties had pre-booked seats on the national airline for their supporters, making it difficult for those who did not want to identify with any political party to come to Malta.

Reacting, the Electoral Commission insisted that although it was aware that Air Malta may have adopted such a practice, it was not involved.
