Heritage Malta is holding a commemorative evening tonight in memory of archaeologist David Trump who passed away on August 31.

Trump was extremely active in Malta, having worked on the excavations at Ġgantija, Skorba and the Xagħra Circle, among others. He also served as

curator of archaeology at the National Museum of Malta and published numerous articles and books, including The Prehistory of the Mediterranean, Malta: an Archaeological Guide.

In 2004 he was awarded Malta’s highest order of merit for his work in Maltese archaeology while, in 2015, the University of Malta conferred upon him the honorary degree of Doctor of Literature for his lifelong commitment to the archaeology of the Maltese islands.

Tonight’s event will see Joseph Buttigieg, Heritage Malta chairman; Joe Attard Tabone, Trump’s life-long friend in Maltese archaeology; and Nicholas Vella from the University of Malta delivering short appreciations. A brief interview with Trump carried out during one of his last visits to Malta will also be screened.

The event is open to the public and those who knew Trump are also invited to intervene.

The commemoration starts at 7.30pm and is being held at the National Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.
