A vast selection of coins and medals is on display at the National Numismatic Exhibition, which opened last week at the Museum of Archaeology in Valletta.

The exhibition, consisting of more than 16,000 coins and medals, is divided into different periods of history and includes the Carthaginians, the Romans, the Medieval millennium, the Order of St John, the French and the British.

Another section includes medals, proofs and accessories, while the minting process is explained through audio-visual means.

The Museum of Archaeology in Republic Street, Valletta, is open from 9am to 5pm until the end of February and from 9am to 6pm from March until December. For more information, visit www.heritagemalta.org.
