He’s perhaps best-known for his popular hit from the 1970s Can’t Afford to Lose, but there’s more to Jon Lukas Woodenman than that one evergreen hit.
Operating mainly from the UK but spending enough time in Malta to be up to speed with the local scene too, Woodenman recently released his latest single, Never Go Away.
The song is Woodenman’s first recording after a tough battle to overcome lung cancer, and bears his trademark soulful vocal timbre draped over its dominant acoustic ambience.
More recently, Never Go Away was picked up by British producer Scott Walker, aka Codered, who injected it with an electronic shot that has given it a new edge and a whole new feel.
The new version, released last month, flows along a slick drum ’n’ bass groove that lends a contemporary pop element to the original version’s genteel balladry.
Meanwhile, Woodenman is presently recording a new season of his popular Woodenman’s Jukebox radio show, which will start airing on One Radio in October.
All 50 previous editions of the show are available to listen to on demand from Woodenman’s Jukebox page on Facebook.
