Juventus coach Antonio Conte is keen to calm soaring fan expectation ahead of the new Serie A season, insisting the team is starting from scratch.

Conte took over the club’s reins in the summer after Luigi Delneri was relieved of his duties following just one year at the helm.

A former midfielder with Juve, Conte knows the club well but he has limited coaching experience, guiding both Bari and Siena into Serie A but only briefly coaching Atalanta in the top flight.

And following two years in a row of abject failure Juve are in desperate need of an upturn in fortunes.

The last two years they have invested heavily in new players leading to many Juventus fans getting carried away by their club’s potential.

That’s not something Conte wants to encourage.

“For us now is the time to keep quiet and start pedalling. We have to work hard, we’re building but practically from zero,” he told reporters.

“Milan, Inter and Napoli are already constructed, they have their framework, their way of playing.

“We’re building, there’s a lot of work to do and I’m not going to make any predictions.”
