I refer to the statement that the “summer carnival was a huge success”, reported to have been made by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.
Perhaps, before making such subjective announcements, the council should have asked the residents what they thought of the whole affair.
At least one of the participating floats arrived at Triq Buġibba in the early hours of the morning, sounding a loud siren as it drove along the road and waking up, I’m sure, many of the residents in the process.
The ridiculously loud music that was played through the afternoon by one of the floats was also unnecessary.
The council also said that the event attracted large crowds. I ask its members to visit Buġibba on any summer weekend evening and they’ll see that the place is always stretched to limits. This so-called “success” simply exacerbated an already acute parking problem, apart from requiring some roads being closed and bus services diverted.
Buġibba and St Paul’s Bay don’t need tacky events to put them on the map.
They are, however, crying out for better cleanliness, maintenance and organisation.
